Hamamelis

also known as Witch hazel is a genus of four species of deciduous shrubs, two species from North America (Hamamelis virginiana and Hamamelis vernalis), one from Japan (Hamamelis japonica also known as Japanese witch hazel) and one from China (Hamamelis mollis also known as Chinese witch hazel). Many cultivars that we grow today in our gardens resulted from the hybrid Hamamelis x intermedia that was bred by crossing Hamamelis japonica with Hamamelis mollis.

Hamamelis flower from autumn to spring so they are are perfect for adding interest in your garden throughout the winter. The flowers have four slender strap-shaped petals of 1-2 cm long, pale to dark yellow, orange or red.
