Almonds are fruiting trees that can grow up and wide if not pruned until they reach 5-6 m. They produce fruits regularly only in area with warm, dry summers and frost-free winters. The nuts are flattened and pointed, with a pitted shell. They still require a chilling period of about 300-500 hours at temperatures below 7 Celsius degrees (45 F). Almonds are pollinated by insects, even most cultivars are partly self-fertile, for better crops it is recommended to plant a pollinator nearby. If you live a cool area that your almond will be just an ornamental tree.
